Myopia Management Clinic
Does your child need stronger glasses almost every year? Rising spectacle power can often be actively managed — not just corrected with thicker lenses each time.
What is myopia?
Myopia (nearsightedness) means your child can see things up close clearly, but distant things — the blackboard, the television, faces across a room — look blurred. It is corrected with glasses or contact lenses. It is very common, and it often begins and grows during the school years.
Why the rising power matters — not just the glasses
When myopia keeps increasing year after year, it isn't only about needing a stronger prescription. Higher levels of myopia are linked to a greater chance of certain eye problems later in life. That is why the goal of a myopia clinic is to slow how quickly it progresses during childhood, while the eyes are still growing — so your child is more likely to settle at a lower final power.
Managed, not just corrected
Ordinary glasses correct today's blur but do nothing to slow next year's increase. Myopia management uses methods that aim to slow progression alongside clear, comfortable vision. These methods cannot stop or reverse myopia, and how well they work varies from child to child — but for many families, actively managing it is better than simply reaching for stronger lenses each year.
Approaches we offer
Your child's ophthalmologist will recommend what suits them best. Not every method suits every child.
Low-dose atropine eye drops
A gentle drop used at night that may help slow how fast a child’s myopia increases.
Myopia-control spectacle lenses
Special glasses that correct your child’s vision and are designed to slow progression.
Orthokeratology (overnight lenses)
Lenses worn during sleep that gently reshape the front of the eye, so many children see clearly through the day without glasses.
Soft multifocal contact lenses
Daytime soft contact lenses designed to help slow progression in suitable children.
Outdoor-time & screen-habit guidance
Simple, practical advice — more daylight outdoor time and sensible screen breaks — that supports healthy eyes.
How the clinic works
Assessment
A careful check of your child’s current spectacle power and eye health, and a look at how quickly it has been changing.
A personalised plan
We discuss the options that suit your child and your family, and agree on a management plan together.
Regular monitoring
We see your child at planned intervals to track progress and adjust the plan as needed.
Book a myopia assessment
Bring your child's current glasses and any past prescriptions if you have them. We'll take it from there.
